Incardination
1. Initial Enquiry
The person seeking incardination contacts the church to express interest and begins a conversation about their calling, background, and ministry.
2. Discernment Period
A period of mutual discernment takes place, allowing both the applicant and the church to explore compatibility in faith, values, and ministry.
3. Application Submission
The applicant completes a simple application and provides:
- Proof of ordination
- A Letter of Excardination or Letter of Release (if previously ordained elsewhere)
- References and relevant safeguarding documents
4. Review and Conversation
Church leadership reviews the application and meets with the applicant (informally or formally) to discuss their vocation and intended ministry.
5. Acceptance and Faculties
If approved, the applicant is accepted for incardination and may be granted faculties (permission to minister), sometimes initially on a provisional basis.
6. Formal Incardination
Incardination is completed by:
- A written Decree of Incardination, and/or
- A simple liturgical act (if desired)
7. Ongoing Ministry and Support
The newly incardinated cleric becomes part of the life of the church, serving in ministry and receiving ongoing pastoral support and oversight.
